The Hornbill Festival, 2024
The Hornbill Festival is an annual festival celebrated from 1 to 10 of December in the Northeastern Indian state of Nagaland.The festival represents all ethnic groups of Nagaland for which it is also called the Festival of Festivals.
Trip Dates : 7th December to 11th December
### **Day 1: Arrival in Dimapur and Transfer to Kohima**
– **Morning**: Arrive in Dimapur, the gateway to Nagaland. (Meeting time is 2pm)
– **Afternoon**: Drive to Kohima (approx. 2.5 hours). Check into your Resort.
– **Evening**: Stroll through the local markets in Kohima, getting a feel for the town.
### **Day 2: Kisama Heritage Village**
– **Morning**: Visit the Kisama Heritage Village, the main venue for the Hornbill Festival. Explore tribal huts, crafts, and food stalls.
– **Afternoon**: Attend traditional dance performances and cultural displays.
– **Evening**: Enjoy a musical concert or rock band performance as part of the festival.
### **Day 3: Explore Kohima**
– **Morning**: Visit the Kohima War Cemetery and the Nagaland State Museum to learn about Naga culture and history.
– **Afternoon**: Explore the Cathedral of the Kohima Diocese and the Kohima Village, also known as Bara Basti, one of the largest and oldest villages in Asia.
– **Evening**: Return to the Hornbill Festival to enjoy the carnival & evening events.
### **Day 4: Visit Pfutsero Village**
– **Morning**: Drive to Pfutsero Village to enjoy the view from the Glory peak (Short Hiking here & It’s also the highest altitude town in Nagaland)
You can also enjoy Japanese cherry blossom here if the blossom is on time like last year! (Fingers Crossed)
Chakesang tribe from this village are very friendly & hospitable. They might invite you for the local rice beer or they might offer you to try some Naga chilly.
– **Evening**: Back to Kohima after interacting with the happy locals!
– **Evening**: attend the events of the Hornbill Festival if you feel like going again.
### **Day 5: Departure**
– **Morning**: Drive back to Dimapur
– **Afternoon**: Depart from Dimapur for your onward journey.
